Fall is here!(2 for C&C)

dakkon76: Thanks for the honest opinion :) The colors are what drew me to the spot and I'm glad they worked as well together as they did!

Compaq: Also thank you for the insight! Getting detailed feedback from members here is tremendously helpful for me. As I said above, the colors are what initially drew me to the photograph -- but that's about as far as my "pin-pointing" of the "something" that attracted my attention went. As a beginner I still feel my sense of what makes a great photo, when I get that feeling, is still quite fuzzy and it's something I always stop and take a few minutes to discover before I start shooting. Sometimes I find it, sometimes I don't. But I feel the more I shoot and the more I get amazing feedback(like yours) from the community and friends, the more I am able to clarify that special something.

I was trying to frame the shot so that the leaf would be the center of attention(as well as it's colors) and I wasn't quite sure what to do with the lines. It was something that was bothering me while shooting(I have 6 or 7 more angles that I hit) but I couldn't quite nail it down. Once again I completely forgot about portrait orientation! Thanks for the tips on how lines express feeling in a shot, I will be keeping that in mind from now on :) And I will try to go back to this scene today and see if I can't re-do it with a better orientation.

Thanks for all the feedback guys!

I think the best part of the contrast of the colors is the representation of change. Blue is a color that I associate with the summer, obviously that red leaf depicts the fall, and you can see beyond the bench the few yellow leaves giving the essence of seasonal transition. There is still green grass sprinkled with yellow leaves depicting the beginning (or end) of a season. I think it's very well done. Whatever your intentions may be when taking the picture, may not be the same intentions when you share it. In some cases, a picture is deeper than the photographer's intentions.

Disclaimer - But what the hell do I know, I'm doing this for a little less than 2 months lol.

I like the first one, but the second one doesn't really do anything for me. I think the blue works well in the first, although it probably wouldn't have been my first choice as a backdrop to the leaf. I think the blue contrasts the red tone nicely. I also think that the "cold" feeling of blue as well as the sheen of the paint ( almost giving a metal effect ) helps bring back the memories that I have of fall. It starts getting dark early, the temps start dropping, you begin smelling a wood fireplace burning somewhere in the distance.....I think the blue helps bring that out a bit. Not that I am arguing anyone elses personal opinion of the use of blue, since this is completely subjective.
