Hi, I like the background you chose but there are a few things that let this image down.
1. its not sharp.
2. needed some fill.
3. their hands are cropped.

Hands yes! I have to watch when I crop and what i crop better

As mentioned, the image desparately needs fill light. As well, the child's expression is...ummm... less than ideal. More importantly however I think is the overall composition. First of all, when you did your pre-shoot consult, what did you discuss with respect to clothing? WHY did you pose them with the black dog on the subject wearing the black clothing? There's really very little famly connection here; get the couple closer together, try and mirror the daughter and dog posing, and do something to get Dad to actually look like he WANTS to be there (whether he does or not is irrelevant; he has to LOOK like he does).

This was my first shoot, it was free and I didn't ask them to specifically what to wear. The dog wasn't supposed to be in he picture originally, mom asked him to jump up. Still learning my camera and photoshop, have a long way to go, I appreciate the feedback very much
