I've never understood the fascination with johnnie blue, other than i guess the image and price. I actually think Gold is better. But I mean they're blends. Nothing wrong with blends, but blue is smooth, but it just has no character.

I actually think the whitehorse aged is better than anything JW puts out.

Haha, amongst my favs, lagavulin is probably the least peaty. so yeah, I feel ya on the peat love.

You really need to try port charlotte. It is a BEAST.

Actually I am not a huge fan of blended Scotch Whiskey however Johnnie Walker Blue is just so darn smooth... Thats why I like it and I suspect thats why most everyone else likes it, Tricky Dick liked it with dry Ginger Ale . Personally I like mine with two ice cubes, though a purist will tell you neat is the only way to drink Scotch. Sometimes I like to do it General Ripper style.

Oban 14 yo and an 18 yo bowmore. I used to drink Glenfiddich a lot but now I can't stand the taste of it don't know why, just something I don't like.

I don't necessarily agree that blends are an insult. In fact blends in a lot of ways predate single malt scotch.

Glen Breton and I have been to their distillery. The water they use is the clearest I have ever seen.

And hey, blends are OK, unless you want snob value. Famous Grouse is the best kept secret (not that it is a secret).

I'm with Derrel on this one. I've never had a whisky I didn't enjoy drinking for what it was (even Glencoe, which can be a little harsh) but it is the situation and company that makes all the difference. Jura, Bunnahabhain, Glenmorangie, Glenmiller and Laphroaig all good.
