Perhaps you lost focus a little bit, but your shutter speed was too slow at 1/40th so what you are seeing is motion blur. I would have been running in the other direction personally

We were on highway and that bear just showed up, so there was no time to do any adjustment on the settings.

I love the second shot. I wonder if you could get rid of the road in PS. Would be an excellent shot with that gone. The background is great.

Gulls in Edmonton. Bears and deers in Banff/Jasper.

Do u mean I was too close? I was in a car on highway and he was walking just by the road.
