Fiery Sunrise

Nice images Paul. Out prairies sunrises and sunsets can give us some really colourful surprises. My only comment is that they look a little oversaturated to me. How did you process them and are you working with a calibrated monitor - just curious?

Cheers,

Like the second one alot. Like to see some foreground detail though.

Thanks for the comments.

Both of these images were from the camera produced .jpg (I usually shoot both raw and .jpg). I tried to play with the raw images and couldn't get it to look right (my post processing skills are limited).

I agree having more foreground detail would make it a better photo. I tried a number of apperture/shutter speed settings but the sky was becoming a bit washed out when the foreground was more visible. If you have any suggestions I would love to hear them. Perhaps HDR would have been the answer.

what is that weird repetitive shading in the photos that looks like bad cloning? Overly saturated also.....

No cloning or post processing involved. I didn't mess with the in camera saturation settings.

That is what the sky looked like that morning. Amazing sunrise, kinda had the Gates of Hell look to it early on.

Don't know if HDR is THE answer, but it is always something to try in these high range situations. I have shot sunsets in HDR with good results, so I would guess that sunrises would be good for that too. Next time...

I love #2 the most. Nice farm scene. Would look nice on a calender. My best friend is a farmer and I also know someone who is a retired farmer. #1 just seems a little too dark in the foreground. Nice work though, awesome colors.

The first one looks fine to me. I would crop just a bit off the top and 1/4 off the bottom to create a pano. :)

Forgot to add: being that red in the morning usually means trouble as in very bad weather coming later in the day (I have seen it happen in my area)
