filter help and more

ok so today I went shooting with my 5D and 24-105 with the CPL filter on. first thing I noticed is this filter seemed dark. I just wanted to experiment w/ the filter...but didn't like the end results when I uploaded to pc. Also I noticed a lot of vignetting in most my photos. I was shooting more near the golden hour and a bit before. I was shooting on f/4 most the time and saw a lot of vignetting goin in in my photos. Wat causes this? my filter and hood perhaps? low lighting situations?

Were you seeing vignetting on the 24mm end? That could be why.

yes, only on the 24 end. is that normal for this lens?

More like the wide angle is seeing part of the filter ring, I'd guess. I don't know any way around it.

hmm ya thats wat I was thinkin...i guess I cud jus shot w/o the filter for wide angle.

Have you read about how a CPL filter is used?

For wide angle lenses you need the 'slim' version of a CPL.

Hit the nail on the head there. CPL's are available in a slim design without threads on the front to help reduce vignetting.
