I had long wished my Kodak Z990 could do filters. I figured out how!!! It is surprisingly easy.
I had noticed that the inner radius of the lens that slides out is 49mm. Ah ha!
Purchase a 49mm to 52mm adapter ring. Female on the 52mm side, male on the 49mm. You will be using 52mm screw-in type filters.
Once you have your 52mm filter of choice, screw it into the adapter ring.
Turn the Z990 on to have the lens slide out.
Now press the filter (with the ring attached) into the lens opening and give a a slight twist. It will stay there, I promise. A slight twist out and it pops back off.
In my case I am using the ring/filter combo with 52mm ND4X which has greatly improved many photos.
CAVEATS:
The camera has to be on for this to work. With the filter in place and the camera turns off after a while from not using it, nothing untoward happens.
***If you try to turn the camera back on again, you get a message that the lens is blocked.*** Just pop the filter off and press back on again if that happens.
