Shooting with a Nikon D5000 and the 18-55mm lens that came in the kit.

The only photoshop used are slight level, brightness/contrast, and color balance adjustments.

subject is one of my best friends and yes, she has a boyfriend. :)

First one is the only one that really seems any good to me, though personally I would tone down the contrast a bit. #2, #3 and #4 (this is why it's useful to number your photos) are all pretty bad to be honest. #5 has a certain tranquil charm to it with her expression and relaxed looking body, but you failed to replicate this charm in #6. #7 is okay though the bright reflection looks somewhat out of place and distracting.

tbh # 1 and 3 look sorta freaky, especially with the bubble in 1 and the distorted figure in 3. I guess if you're into these things then it's fine. I do though see potential in the last one, just lose that sparkle on her hands

I'd give some consideration to formulating a large, blocky watermark/overlay, and of getting ready to go pro within a year.:sexywink: The shot of the girl looking all weird and such in the third or fourth, or yeah,. let me scroll up and check it, the fourth shot is somewhat interesting; 'different and unusual' for sure. Enjoy the new camera!

I think you need to re-do your white balance settings. The eyes of your subject has a blue hue and skin tones appear a bit weird. Get a polarizing filter to eliminate or at least reduce the glare on the water.

Thanks for the critique, it looks like I have a lot to work on. The "sparkle" in #7 is the sun's glare/reflection and I thought it was sort of interesting, but I guess it distracts more than enhances. I have a few more shots without it, so I'll think about using those instead.

golly

I really like the last one - so peaceful. I also think that #3 (with the laugh) is a great motive. And your friend is gorgeous I can see how you would see the need to tell us she has a boyfriend. ;)

Look heavily PS'd to me lol. Truthfully not diggin any of them.

#4 is the only one that made me stop for a second while scrolling, but that's b/c of it's craziness.

Enjoy the new camera! Now that you have entry level gear, time to start reading on skills and what makes an image a good image.

I would suggest starting with not making your subject look like a dead floating corpse. :)

thanks for the advice. the whole point of this experimental photoshoot was for her to look like she was dead. this was originally supposed to be in black and white so it looked less "pool-like."

Haha I came back and you're even more cynical. God I've missed you Derrel.
