Whoo hooo,

My SB-600 showed up in the mail today, 1 day earlier than expected. I have begun playing around with it a little bit trying to see the difference myself of bouncing the flash vs. using the Flash straight at the subject. WOW!!!!! what a difference.

1.) Flash used straight at the basket.

2.) Bounced off the ceiling, I believe at 60 degrees???

If you have any tips for this SB-600 noob, I would appreciate it.

Time to read some of the manual and play some more.

Watch the color cast. Light is not only reflected off a surface, but picks up the color of the surface it is reflected off of. Bouncing off white ceilings is ideal, but you can always correct for casts later on (for example, I'd adjust for yellow in your second photo).

Congratulations, and a dedicated (controllable) flash does make a difference.
