Finding events / Celebrity meets?

How do you guys find out about Events / Last minute events and Celebrity meetings and other cool Pap stuff?

Is there specific agencies you add to your twitter account to see their tweets about your town? or do you call government and ask about events or do you just get contacts (bar owners, Restaurant managers, Hair dressers etc...) to call you up when they see someone / hear about something?

Question is for Personal use.
I have no idea how to find out about events, I usually don't hear about them till last minute... like literally last minute before they pack up and god, Last minute...

Local papers are a good start.

We have a free one in Montreal that is published every week. They have various sections on "whats on in the city", usually broken down by music, dance and so on.

I found a newswire site that lists events as well, which is where I once found out about Val Kilmer being in town for a certain conference.
