trying to get out with the camera more...especially with the new 300mm f/4.
decided to give it a go with the moon. I know its a pretty generic subject matter, but I figure everyone's got to try the moon at least once or twice right? not really any stars visible, so everything but the moon was pretty much black.

thats a really good exposure of it...the light from the moon (and other local light pollution) usually will overpower nearby stars when you're exposing for the moon, so its normal to have the black background...you should try shooting the moon when its not full , to get some good sidelighting on the surface details...

how do you like that 300 f4 in general?

so far its been a pretty nice lens. I got a good price on it, but its not like its the f/2.8 version. the AF is fast, and even manually focusing isnt terribly difficult with a little practice. the focusing ring is big, and you have to switch between AF and MF on the ring itself, but otherwise not too bad. I think the quality is good, and the photos seem pretty sharp. hopefully i can get it out a little more and practice with it. so far i am loving fixed focal lenses. Its not a lens i am great with handheld though, as its 3 lbs. ive been using it on a tripod. I also have a 2X tele-converter for it that i haven't messed with yet.

nice, I've occasionally considered it, but havent pulled the trigger...if you get a chance sometime you should post up some other images from it, I'd be interested in seeing them.

I posted a few pics of my kid at the park I took with that lens the other day.

I'll have to look those up.

Not too bad, maybe crop it a bit to make it bigger other then that looks ok.
