Hey there,
These are my first B&W pictures, and the 2nd day I got a camera. Please tell me what I need to improve, and what I did right :D

I good black and white should have black AND white, not black and gray. You can try and boost the contrast in Photoshop, but none of these just says "wow" to me.

Don't try and shoot through a wire fence, it generally doesn't turn out.

The last one has some potential, at least as a location. Right now there's no interest, at least for me. I see an opportunity to get closer and use the water/ice and try getting some reflections. Something like this: Liquid Gold. :)

Thank you very much for your reply. A few good tips. This is the best way to learn. (at least for me)
Though the sun wassn't as beautiful as your link picture. The lightning was realy realy bad.

I just did a quick contrast, brightness, fill light, and blacks adjustment.

I don't know if these are better or not, I'm using your images to learn myself.

All I did is used curves in Photoshop.

I find that shooting B&W photos tend to turn out better when shooting in daylight...overcast doesn't lend a lot of contrast - at least to me. Just food for thought. ;)

+1

However I will say - overcast does make for epic clouds in shots if done well. ;)
