Tried to keep the WB consistent. Very mobile baby and kept crawling so we'd place him at the back of the backdrop, and he'd crawl to the front. But the best shots happened when he didn't crawl. Only problem, I had the background light jacked up and right on him. By time I tried to adjust f-stop, he'd be on the move again.

It was a very eye-opening experience. Good natured and never cried, but moving gave me fits with blow-out, shadows, etc.

Interested in feedback. Blowout is biggest factor imo.

Did you have the light directly to the right of him? Those also look like hard shadows... Did you use a diffuser? Did you have a fill?

The two black background shots, #1 and #4 are very solid, and cute to boot!!

The white background shots do not look so good, with that big shadow being cast.

His mama will still like 'em all though....and some day, even the worst of them will be a treasured family heirloom photo...looks and sounds like a good learning experience. I used to do family photography 5/8...that particular age can be exasperating...it's like herding cats or catching water...

yes, but it wasn't suppose to be. It was the background light. Every time she'd sit him there, he'd immediately begin crawling forward, or to the right. So I had her sit him as close to the backdrop as possible to give me a few feet of shots as he headed forward.

Except this time he stopped and sat there - unfortunately right in front of the background light. Had he crawled two feet forward and stopped it would have been where the Key light was pointed.

I also immediately tried to adjust my f-stop when I saw this, but he took off again by the time I set it.

That light had no diffuser, but was there to blast the backdrop. The key light had a softbox, as did the second light to the right-front.

I like your shots. The one with the mom in the picture, I would crop off the bottom that faintly shows her jeans.

Aww it sounds like he really made you work! Lmao. How old is he? My son is the same way... lol. Overall I think they came out well considering everything. Maybe you can put the background light closer to the background but use two lights so it's evenly blown. What fabric is the white background? I like how there's really no wrinkles.

Thanks Vince!

Sabrina - It's been about 20 years since I had one this age lol! It was a great experience, however, I think I'm already spoiled on kids because this one was really playful and fun. I know they're not ALL that way, so next one will be interesting.

I ordered a fourth light so I could use two on the backdrop to evenly light, got the new one two days ago, but one of the older ones blew a fuse and now burns through fuses so I have to send it back for replacement. Fortunately, I had the third light so at least was able to light the backdrop.

Backdrop was purchased from fabric shop. Think it's fleece. It's always on sale at $4 yard - only problem is it's only 5' wide - but I purchased black and a white one, and they serve well for my space. Definitely washable.

The mom did not want her body in the pic because she's not happy with her figure. She has shots done every month (7 month old), but hasn't had any of her and the child. So as she tried to wake him up a bit and get him smiling, I told her to stand in the shot and she wasn't aware I was going to start shooting.

I noticed her black shirt and was HOPING it would blend with the background so her 'shape' could be hidden. she loved it!

Fleece! I knew it looked kind of thick. I have to stop in at Joanns and try it out! So what lights did you get? I'm thinking about getting another alien bee.
