Kris, these look very nice. You have aptly demonstrated the effective use of fill flash as a worthwhile accessory in bird photography. Had you not told us, must of us would probably not have known.

Nice set Kris. Your other friends should be arriving soon!

There are a few around.. Poor Osprey, not the typical spring weather they return too.. I have found a few new spots over the winter that seem promising.. If only work and weather would cooperate...

Very nice images, Kris. The blue jays look as pissed off about the snow as you are. The fill flash is very natural-looking, and is revealed pretty much only by the catch-lights in the eyes. I would be thrilled to have captured any of these images.

Very nice, particularly the RBW. The few times I have tried flash for birds, i got the dreaded "slate eye" And have not been able to solve for it.

Thank you everyone!

What I am figuring out is that you can't rely on the flash as your only light source. I shoot these as pretty low shutters to use as much natural light as possible. I also discovered that spot metering doesn't work well with the flash, so I set it to matrix and used EC as needed. I used my cheap mk-910 without a beamer for these. The RWBB was the only one with no flash I think..
