First decent Dragonfly pic this year

This is the first Dragonfly of the year. Been a very slow season in the UK for Dragon Flies.

The heatwave in UK is getting ridiculous now. 40C (105F) today and no Air Conditioning.

I've never tried to shoot a dragon fly.

They tend to not sit still and move so quickly. Your shots are a testament to your exceptional photography skill as well as patience!

I always got a kick out of how they would land on the tip of my fishing pole like I had hoisted it high simply to give them a place to survey the scene and take a rest.

And thank you for allowing the EXIF data to come along with the photo. It really helps those of us that need to improve our abilities.

There's a bit of luck if you are near somewhere where
a) there are lots of dragonflies
b) you can get close to the water
Then taking in flight is possible if you have the time and equipment.

If you have somewhere near you that is known for Dragonflies then you really should give it a go. It is very frustrating, time consuming, and immensely rewarding.
Brush up on your Ninja skills and practice being still and quiet for extended periods of time. The first time you spot a large hawker and follow it until it perches in an accessible place and then creep up on it close enough to get a macro shot and nail the exposure / aperture and composition is something you will not want to stop talking about.

Be prepared for very indifferent reactions to Dragonfly pics, but you will know how much of an achievement it is.
