Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Well new to me camera. Canon 300D with Canon EFS 55-250 IS

Shot by opening window in house to backyard about 20 feet. I shot it in RAW mode (by accident) so I had to upload Canon's DPP program. I adjusted brightness & sharpness. Did I do ok for my first time?

Thanks

Yes. Not too bad!!! The squirrel foraging in the snow is a pretty good squirrel shot, especially compared to so,so many utterly mundane ones.

That made me feel very good! Thank You!!

Not bad.. a little dark maybe!

Looks pretty well exposed on my monitor, Its so easy to over-expose when shooting snow but there is plenty of detail there, good effort.

Do you calibrate?

Do you calibrate?

By that what do you mean??

Monitor calibration.. to obtain a uniform (spec) brightness, contrast and color range... that will match what people see on other calibrated monitors..... https://www.google.com/search?q=mon...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Well I bet your guessing by my question, I didn't do this. I will follow the link you have given me. thank You!

Well I can't afford to get anything to calibrate my cheap monitor. So what does this mean? Should I just be selling my camera now? :P

If you look at people's profiles, most of us have selected one of the 2 edit preferences:

With a visual art like photography showing someone an improvement is often easier then telling someone about an improvement.

The reflected light meter in your camera was thrown off by the snow, and your photo was under exposed.

Ahhh that darn snow!!! I even tried to go a couple of stops up to compensate. Someday I will get this!! I will change my profile preferences for sure in order to help my learning. For the photo I posted, I did already edit it- can someone still work with that? I am pretty sure I don't have the original raw format on it..

Ok-So now I am going to ask for help.

Even though I was satisfied with the way my squirrel turned out, I decided to look up gray squirrel pictures online to compare, and NOW I see why everyone is stating it is underexposed. For some reason in my head I thought the squirrel was the right color, but it's not. They definitely are a lighter gray than that! DOH!

Therefore, if someone can please edit my photo then let me know what you did to correct it so that I may try to duplicate on my own, it would be greatly appreciated. I did brighten the original raw file in DPP program by Canon, but that obviously isn't enough or correct in what I did. I would like to learn, and although I am computer savvy on somethings, photo editing is not one of them. I am going to try to calibrate my monitor to the best I can tonight, although I realize it won't be precise, but I should be able to get close (according to some research I did on the internet regarding the subject.)

Again, I want you all to know that I appreciate the help very much, this is all very new to me and a bit intimidating, but I am very eager to learn!! :)
