first lens - but which sigma 18-50mm?

Removed my last link as well. Adorama's product description says it's the right lens but the picture of it does not.

That is what I found and I really do not know why Sigma did not release the lens with a Canon mount. In that case, the Tamron version is better for Canon camera since the older version is not as good (when compares with the new Sigma and Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8) Beside optically better, I think the HSM is nice to have.

yeah, going back to the original post... the 2.8-4.5 isn't nearly the same as the 2.8

You would definitely want the 2.8 (without the 4.5) as that one will typically be much higher quality.
