Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Here's the results of my shoot. I know there's a lot of stuff I'd done differently. Part of my problem is I always feel SO rushed, like I don't want to make someone wait, even if they aren't pressuring me. I had an absolute blast and the model was a JOY to work with (and her brother, too!).

Anyhow, I was pretty happy with the results, especially since I haven't shot a single photograph in about 2 months. My poor camera was getting cold and lonely.

Feel free to C&C as you wish, but I know there's a lot of them.

And for fun, here's some of the ones I took for her brother.

Bleh... some of them look softer through flickr... Sometimes that happens to me and I don't know why. I guess I need to figure out how to resize for web correctly?

Not bad.. You just need to be better at processing.

One down, many to go!
I think these are nice for a first go. The important thing, IMO, is that you got one under your belt. And it was a great experience, so that should be encouraging. Get out there and schedule more! there's no shortage of "models" ready to shoot. :D

Well done.

Enjoy!

She needs lessons on posing very wooden, the umbrella shot is definitely soft

Thanks to all. She's not a pro, so her needing posing lessons is possibly true if she chooses to pursue a career in modeling over the medical school she just got into, but for her it's more of a hobby and I was thankful. We were both learning and it was a good time! :)

also.. you need to be consistent with your edit. Look at #1 and #5, notice the difference?

Yes, I know they are way different. I wasn't even trying to keep them consistent. :D There's more that are even MORE different. I was just kind of experimenting to see what kind of feel I wanted for the shoot. :) I totally get it, though, Schwetty and you're right I have a very hard time keeping them consistent.

I don't always agree with keeping edits consistent if your trying to show different options for a session like this. If its a wedding album or continual story thats different. Why not show off the different range of PP styles.

Really like number 2. The others are ok but not quite as good as that one which seems nice lighting, crisp eyes etc. Even on my crappy laptop.

i take that back, not the edit.. I am talking more like the exposure. The 2 are basically the same shots. You can probably blame it on AV (i assumed that is what you used). To me these 2 should be identical since it is not really different edit and it is exact same spot. #5 is warmer and has more color for sure.

Ah I see what you mean looking at them. Was thinking edits strictly.

The umbrella shot has a lot of light coming from down low. (not the most flattering light) For #3 I would have rotated her around the tree so the light acts more like a kicker, and isn't making that harsh shadow between her cheek and eye.

Great tips everyone! I went back and looked at the originals of #1 and #5 and you're right, the originals look very different. One has the more hazey look to it. I was in manual mode, not AV, so it's all my fault. One was more like the first shot in that spot and the other was further along, so maybe it was just that I finally got my settings closer to right in the fifth one.

I see what you mean about the tree shot as well.

I tend to under expose, but this was my first time working with someone with darker skin and I found out that I had tendency to OVER expose. Blah. I'll get it right one day.

I used my reflector and because it was so windy I actually had them switch off holding it. Unfortunately they weren't experts at it, but I guarantee that even though they weren't it was a HUGE help with getting light in the eyes and face. (Which I'm horrible at!)

I appreciate all the advice and tips and I'm still learning and really it took me a while to get warmed up.

Don't have time to comment on all, but watch out for light coming from beneath like in #3 and #7. It pretty much never looks good. That's why the girl looks like she has a puffy eyes and a sinus infections and the guy has an awkward nose shadow and looks like he has a black eye.
