And what the heck is these blue and orange abberations???

Lens flare......

I see what you were going for but if you wanted the moon in focus with detail you need to modify your settings alot.

honestly, i really didnt have an idea for any type of shot.
just wanted to see what i could get.
but will read up on spot metering. thx alot

it looks like like a spot light through some trees with a side of flare.

You need to get your exposure down and bump up your iso

I did the same mistake a while back and got a sun in the night looking thing. I tried it again with lowering my exposure compensation and bumping up iso and got great detail.

Good luck.

Are you using a filter on your lens? If so, take it off when shooting like this... they cause all sorts of problems. You are also massively overexposing. If your body has spot metering capability... use that to meter the moon. Or you can shoot manually at approx ISO100, F8, 1/400, and then adjust for your particular conditions... a tripod is highly recommended. As is using a remote shutter release.. or the self time. Mirror lockup is a good idea also when you start using longer lenses.

EDIT: I see you have a 300mm listed in your profile.. you can get some good shots with that.

This is on old shot I did.. with 28-300 at 300mm (with a crop)
