"First Night" - Hanukkah

I was trying to compose a nice shot, but it turned out looking a little drab, I think. Even though I'm posting this in the General Gallery, I'd like any advice folks have on making it better. Settings were 1/40 sec, 35 mm, f/1.4, ISO 200, hand-held.

Im not a pro, but for a noobie...whatever is in the background, if that wasn't there it'd be even better.
