First Photos: C&C Appreciated

For Christmas, I received a Canon Rebel T2i. I want photography to come as hobby for me, so please comment on these photos and tell me how to improve. If I knew how to make the pictures smaller, I would.




6. I really like this one.

7. Again, another one I really like, since it is different from the others.

9. This is my favorite. I am a little disappointed that I cut off some of the top of his neck, but I still love it.

Study photographic composition. Guidelines for Better Photographic Composition. Learn the exposure triangle and how to control it yourself instead of allowing the camera to control things for you.
Get your monitor calibrated.
Use only one focus point and lock it where you want your focus to be. It is off in most of these.

Thank you, MLeeK, for the rather quick response.

On my camera, I knew that you could either manually select the focus point or keep it automatic, so I wasn't sure what to pick. I will keep it on manual now.

By the exposure triangle, I assume you mean ISO, shutter speed, and aperature?

That is a will do about getting my monitor calibrated.

What pictures, though, would you say are the "best", or at least have some potential (and also, could you please point out which pictures have only one focus point?)?

too many for individual C&C but here is a few for you: #1 too much light on the left side (blown out), #2 the color seems off, #3 nice shot through the glass, #9 too bright not showing the true grass color right now (appears almost white, is it or is it brown)

For the ninth one, the grass actually is a really light color like that. We have ugly grass that is almost hay like. I guess you are right that I posted too many for C&C. I will start to learn more about controlling exposure and composition, and I will post either one or two pictures tomorrow.

Many of us just go right on by when more than 1 or 2 photos are posted for C&C.

Thanks for the tip, KmH. I edited my first post to only 3 pictures, the 3 which I felt were the best.

Also, I am starting to understand exposure a little better, so I think I will start shooting in manual mode.
