First post...2 pics for C&C

Hello all! I'm just starting to get into photography.
Please tell me how I can improve in my shots. I edited the photos in Lightroom (my first edits with it), so please comment on the editing as well. I don't know many technical aspects of composition other than the 1/3rds rule. I'll be getting some books for Christmas on photography.

Of the 7 pics, I see 5 red x's.

The two that show up are underexposed, and the most interesting captures. What makes these images special in your eyes?

I fixed the technical problems.

I was thinking that the first one showed a kind of circular frame and the second had an interesting reflection. They're not my best images, but they are what I found to edit. I changed the exposure in lightroom. They were overexposed in the original, I think.
