Hello everyone, finally plucked up the courage to post an image. This was taken on a bridge camera but just bought my first SLR so looking forward to learning from that. Anyway your c&c is most welcome to help me learn. Thank you.

First, congratulations on posting for the first time.
This is well exposed and reasonably sharp.
The composition leaves a bit to be improved. The more interesting parts of teh head - the eye, the striping on the head and the 'cap' are only barely seen in this view.
More of a profile would probably have more impact.

Hi Lew, thank you for your welcome and comments. Good point, I was so wrapped up in getting something close to eye contact and didn't consider the bigger picture (no pun intended), you are right, there are interesting features I have missed. Will take more thought next time and see what comes out.

I agree a profile would have made this better but I still like it a lot. Not so much when you look at it in the small preview, but once I clicked on it to enlarge it, loads of detail pop out at me. I think having the screen go dark around the image helps too. The detail in the beak and feathers is a little soft but still very nice. Oh yeah, welcome to the site!
