Hello all. I was never really into shooting photos. However, I bought myself a Nikon D5000 for the hell of it, and it turns out, I REALLY like this hobby! So much so, I have come here to learn more about it.

Here are a few photos I did with the camera since I have had it all of three days. Any info, tips, ect. . . is appreciated. Please leave CC.

Thank you!

Please note* ALL shots are done on a Nikon D5000 with the kit lens (18-55mm AF & VR)

*Please note, All Photos above were shot in Auto mode. All Photos below are shot in Program mode. The only thing I changed in P mode for the shots below was the Picture Control. I changed it to Vibrant.

Im not really into classic cars, but passing these while driving with a new Nikon in the back seat seemed foolish!

Saw this 2 miles out of Philadelphia, where I live, on my way to a local camera shop. It's insane what you notice when you have a camera with you!!!

It's a buddhist temple.

I plan on getting training, a Zoom lens, a UV filter, a Polarizing filter, and a lens hood for the lens I am useing now.

on the car photos, next time try not to cut the back of the pink car out of the pic, but other than that thats all i can help with

The only one I really like is #1.. I could see that one in a magazine, though it is tilted slightly counter-clockwise.

The others just look like ordinary point and shoot pictures. You seem to have a thing with getting close to your subjects and trying to fill the entire frame with them.. break that habit. Stand back a bit and let the pictures breathe a little.. provided there's the background is acceptable.

I would like to see the rest of the car on the first and last car shots.
I would have gotten lower to take the shot of your second car.

Never shoot down on pets or kids! Next time you take photos of your dog, get down on his level, you could even try shooting up at him. Always try to get a perspective that is eye level or below.

I do like some off your car shots. Welcome to the forum, this is the best place to learn!

I agree kind of. It's just my personal preference, but I love shooting down on pets and kids if I'm using a very wide angle. I just really like the effect it gives, but for what she was commenting on, I totally agree.
