New to the forum I have been taking pictures for a year and most of these were taken with a Sony point and shoot H2, I still have that but I have gone to a Sony A350 I have a lot of learning to do but I love to take pictures so I would appreciate any positive input

Pic overload! I do love pics #3 and #16 (butterfly?), great colors there. Were you able to get such great detail on that butterfly with just the point and shoot?

sorry about the picture overload, the butterfly picture was taken in full sunlight, on a hot July afternoon I was able to get really close this plant gives off lots of nectar and they really dont want to leave it, did you notice the monarch catipillar on the stem

too much to comment. Nice shots but some of them are either noisy, OOF, or a bit overexpsed

A couple of thoughts. First, as mentioned, too many photos. Not as though we, as a collective group, are unwilling to help, but we need to focus on just a few at a time.

So, as a whole, I say this. Your patients is there. You seem to be willing to wait for the right shot. This is crucial. Moving to an SLR provides so many advantages, albeit with accompanying challenges.

You have a great sense of what you want to photograph, but you just are not getting what you want. This will happen with SLR. You will be able to experiment with DOF (depth of field) to isolate subjects or includes additional subjects.

Also, even the most advance point-and-shoot will never give the full coverage of an SLR, with the exception of the Sigma DP1.

Pick a few you are most critical of and let us work with those. Then submit more. Photography is like the ocean, not a pool; it is not best to just jump in. Start at the beach and walk in.
