First project C&C please

So let me first say I'm still really new at this, just picked up my camera last week and started my first class on Tuesday. Our first assignment is just a point of view, practicing using our cameras and doing a little post processing. Here's what I have so far...

I like the 1st one a lot for some reason.
The 2nd one is ok, but it looks like something anybody with a camera would take. Theres too much headroom, and that wouldn't be so bad if the background was interesting instead of just grass, you know?

IMO too much post on the trees, also the sides of the trees are cut off. the second one, well, it's a basic snap shot. rule of thirds needs to be applied here, also when shooting kids it's best to get on their level. wayyyy to much space above her. also that light pole? on the right is very distracting.
