First Roll Feedback

Here are some photos of my first roll developed at home:

Camera: Nikon FE (F100 on its way so I can use it with my G lenses)
Lens: Tamron 28mm-70mm 3.5-5.6 (cheap $50 lens from local store, but needed it due to aperture ring)
Film: Ilford HP5 Plus
Developer: Ilfsol 3 1+14 for 14 min @ 64 degrees F (accidentally over developed by 2 min)
Scanner: Ion Film 2 SD (returning to best buy tomorrow and picking up a Epson V600)

They seem really out of focused and soft. Most likely a combination of factors but if anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it.

Rescan them when you get the V600 ive got the V500 and it does a good job

That is a seriously ugly mock gothic building in the last shot!

It's a high school that was built in 1892, almost the same color as it looks in the picture.

Funny, I rather like the high school building!

These have a pronounced magenta tint to them, at least on my monitor. Can't say much until you've had them rescanned, as gsgary suggests. I don't mind the softness per se, but the color cast is off. Repost them once you have your new V600 hooked up.

I like the high school building to. What I dont like is the color of all of this pics.
I don't think any of this pictures is out of focus. Ficus and softness are two totally different things. I mean it is really hard to trow such a wide shots out of focus using slr, unless someone is blind. Softness may come from movement, lenses and also over development, however in your case I don't think so. Most likely as Gary is saying: scanner.

My old Canon scanner used to give a magenta cast

As far as the color goes, is there a color/B&W setting? It almost looks like they were scanned as color negs... Not sure what software you're using, but in the software I use you can select from color or B&W and negative or positive before scanning.
