First time! C&C

Hello, this is actually my first time asking for C&C. I will be getting my first DSLR in a few weeks, and I took all of these on my compact camera, but this is my first time editing my photos, and going out for a "shoot".
These are a bit of a random set, but all were taken today in my backyard/front yard. I am not sure how #3 got the shadow exactly, but I am aware of it, and wish I could edit it out. Also, #4 had too much of a "blue" tint, so I made it B&W and added some effects, not sure how it looks.

Pretty good start so far! #2 burns my eyes a bit, but the rest are quite nice. What software are you using for editing?

That dog shot is really good. I think you'll do quite well with your new camera. It will give you the control you need to do an even better job.

This is so good to hear! It means a lot coming from you guys. the software I used was actually a free online editing source: ipiccy.com
I am ordering PS elements though.
