Very clever; I think 1 and 2 need more DoF so that the background isn't quite so blurred, and #3 a little more light on the 'cycle'.

Thanks tirediron.....

I thought DoF meant to have a blurred background....

Can you tell me what the "DoF for dummies" meaning is or give an example of DoF?

Nikon D5100

Thanks!!!

this is an good example of shallow DOF

I too have a D5100 :) You are welcome to check my noobie photo website - qualitypics.smugmug.com

if you mouse over the right side of any pic, it shows the settings I used for the shots. I'm not a pro (FAR from it) but have been shooting everyday for the past 3 weeks since I started. I hope that helps you some :)

A GREAT book - DSLR photography for dummies
A GREAT Online e-book for our cameras - Nikon D5100 Experience - User's Guide for the Nikon D5100

DOF = Depth Of Field. You can have a small/shallow depth of field or a large/deep depth of field.

if you do this stuff again you should build a little set behind them or print out a picture of a street in a city, certainly would give the pictures a bigger comedy factor haha just my inner child coming out :)

Thanks everybody!

Cheesy, I just might try that...lol
sroc3, thanks for the tips.

The shallow DOF is great to give the toys life in relation to each other. The carpet might be crashing the party a bit so, I agree with cheezy. You could have some great fun with floors and backgrounds. You might also light them with a window from behind to give depth.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who practices with my children toys. My son has a great car selection I like to test on :)

Hehehe, those are cool but I agree with Cheesy, some props or a desert landscape would be awesome!!
