Not too happy with the results. I think for next time get more lighting to so I don't have to use a flash and can use a faster shutter speed. Also I think I could use a better background.

Any other tips?

I think your flash is the way to go. if you can take it off camera and move your camera to be more level with the water a high speed synch will help to get faster shutter speeds. I'd also try adding some colours around or below the bowl. I think it was Kundalini who posted some examples with great colours. You could search water drops kundalini to see what I mean.

You can also post process your shots:

You only have middle tones change this so you have some blacks and whites. The image was also sharpened and I had to apply NR because it is a web image. Processing your file should give better results.

Thanks for the tips. I will definitely give it another try. I have an sb-400 flash and not sure that that one will work off camera.

The blue comes from a plastic bag I used in the sink, which looking back now the wrinkles look kind of distracting. I'll use a petri dish or something next time and put the color underneath it.

And post processing is something I really need to learn how to do...
