I just received my first off-camera flash and an umbrella. These are the first shots I tried while employing all of my knowledge I could remember from watching CreativeLive.com for the last 6 months. Any critiques would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have a flash but don't have a good way to remotely fire it (without using my pop up flash), do you mind telling me your set up? I think these pics look very nice!

These are pretty good for a one light system. I personally would like to see a little fill light with a reflector just because of the strong light fall off that you get on the face.

How far was your light and umbrella from the subjects face?

The light source was about 3 feet away. I have a 43" reflector on order already. I also want to make a scrim for the umbrella, since it didn't some with one. Sometime this week I will also try shooting through it.

For what it's worth, a piece of developed film negative in front of the pop up flash will trigger a slave speedlight without exposing through the pop up to your subject. (lowest power on the pop up flash if you have the ability to adjust it.)
