First try with studio lights

No matter how you do it (and there are at least 2-3 ways), you are 1 possibly 2 stops underexposed.

How you choose to do it is up to you.

- aperture could possibly reduce your DOF
- slower shutter speed could result in motion blur
- increased volume of light would be the best option... if equipment and conditions permit.

Don't depend on the LCD too much. Chimping it's hard to tell any great detail on the LCD of the camera, but experience will sort this all out for you.

Just 2 cents worth of thoughts from a fellow newb.

I shot it at f5.6. I think if I opened the lens up anymore, I wouldn't be able to keep all of his arms and the guitar in focus, because of the angle he was sitting at. I could definitely slow down the shutter speed. The camera was mounted on a tripod, so motion wouldn't be an issue. And I agree about the LCD. I shoot with a D80, but even with that nice big display my eyes discern anything. I have to zoom in about 5x to make out any details. And even then, I'm not sure how accurate the color/light is on it. It's not like I can calibrate it! I just bought a laptop and plan on hooking up the camera so I can have a nice big calibrated display to review.
