I do a lot of wildlife and nature photography, so fishing typically finds its way in. Here are a couple recent favorites.

This first one was candid. The three of them just happened to be standing perfectly for this shot. They had no idea I took it until I showed them later. It's simple, but it's turned into a definite favorite - though I've been struggling with trying to get the horizon perfectly straight.

This is my man's striped bass. He loves to fish.

In the first your highlights are blow in the wave and sand, it looks a little contrasty and I feel like your horizon is a little crooked. On the fish picture you gotta get that little thing out of the back ground by the fish's head. Congrats on trying new stuff, keep working.

For the first one, i really like where the high contrast is going with the image and id say that it has allot of potential. I personally would have loved to see more horizon so a wider shot would have worked wonders here. I would also have liked to see a slight angled side shot as opposed to the dead center, i think that would give the image allot more depth.

I like number 1, however the sand is a bit blown out for my taste.

I agree that 1 is overexposed, and majorly crooked, but those points have already been mentioned. Have you ever tried a B/W edit? Values are much more forgiving to dodge/burn and curves when it's in b/w:

Just a quick edit on the small copy, it would look 20x better had it been done with the original.


The second looks like a snapshot that could have been taken on a phone, nothing too special besides the size of that monster fish!
