flash attachment question

just wondering...for the flash attachments that do not have a hinge and are fixed, is there any way you can seperate it from the camera so that you can hold it up to diffuse the light off of the ceiling or can you use a cable to connect the flash attachment to the camera but hold it to the side? Or do you have to a have a flash that can tilt up and down to be able to do that?

Yes, use a cable and you can point the flash whatever direction you like.
