Flash Cord Help

I'm a newbie here. I have an old Vivtar 3500 from my mothers camera and I have a new D80. The cord she has for the flash doesn't seem to fit in my camera anywhere. Which plug does it generally plug into in the D80 and do I need to buy a special cord? Which one?

If you are talking about a PC sync cord (little round connector with single pin on the inside and a metal ring outside like some of those power cables), then you will need to buy an adapter. The D80 does not have a PC sync terminal. A PC sync -> hotshoe adapter will allow you to plug that cord into the hotshoe of your camera and trigger the flash that way.
