flash for my d40

I am considering buying a new flash for my Nikon d40. I have the opportunity to purchase a sunpak pf30x for $59 new. http://http://www.tocad.com/sunpak/flashunits.html What do you guys think of this flash. Will it do for a beginner? I plan on using it primarily for photo's of the kids in low light situations. Thanks for the input! Jason

Recycle time is a bit slow (10 seconds; and that will be really annoying of your trying to get pictures of kids) but other than that it looks like a great first flash.

Stick with an iTTL flash... SB-600's are great

Yep you'll hate yourself not getting an iTTL compatible flash. It will greatly limit what you can and can't do with the camera.

sb-400!!! I love it!! Its small light weight and is iTTL functional! It only rotates upwards on the y axis but its great for a cheap intro bounce flash. I'd also recomend the sto fen diffuser for an extra 12 bucks.

I just bought a sb-600 off of Adorama. I think I will be happy with it plus in the future I can use it in conjunction with a sb-800 for a strobe in a home studio. Thanks for all of the input guys/gals.

DO NOT BUY PF30X for your D40. I did that mistake and I'm unhappy now. It will not work if you had D40 upgraded to the 1.10 firmware version. If i've knew this, i never made that firmware upgrade.

That's some great info. Thanks. Best Buy sells them as a budget flash for the d40, and my friend works there so I was going to use his discount to get it.
