Great work with the kitlens!
Some nice sharp shots there - some a little soft, but using a non=macro kit lens for this is going to have some limitations.
I really like the lighting and angle on the 3rd shot - a really lowdown and interseting profil shot. Your spider shots (please not too many scary spiders) highlight really well about the only real weakness I can see and that is the angle of the lighting - idealy you want to get this behind you so that it is lighting up the face of the subject that you are photographing - though I understand that sometimes its impossible to get the light at the right angle. Though you don't really need it in these shots (IMO) I think that you might think of trying the flash (its not the, but its better than no flash) to fill some light into shots where the light is behind the subject (unless you are going for a siloett like with number 3

Btw i used flash for all these pics and then i did use some contrast,brightness.
And yes these are the best i got with the 55mm kitlens.
Pic 2 is out of focus.
I like nr3. i got the angle and shadows okey on this pic.
