Floodplain Winter Landscape

Mississippi floodplain southern Illinois. The bluffs in the distance (some exposed rock) were created when the ice-age ended and the Mississippi was a raging torrent of melting ice. Today it's a trickle by comparison but I have seen this area under a couple feet of Mississippi during a wet Spring.
