Flowers for CC

Just noticed these flowers last night at about dusk so I snapped these quick without setting anything up or using anything external to the camera(flash/lighting). Don't hold any CC back, but I am still extremely new to dslr so hang in there with me. Thanks.

No editing at all. My favorite, though I should probably edit out the little green leaf on the left, and I think the shadow is somewhat distracting. I still love it.

The second is a bit overly contrasty, but the first is good. The bw shows promise, but you need better tonal separation between the flower and the background. If you look at the color channels in the layers palette, they should look quite different and you can take this into account when you convert to bw. This is assuming you are converting via an adjustment layer rather than simply desaturating or changing to grayscale mode. The adjustment layer allows for different mixes of the various color channels.

Thanks for the info Ken. I was simply changing the mode to grayscale. I'm not only a noob to dslr but also to photoshop and photo editing in general. I'm learning and didn't know about the adjustment layer. I've got lots to learn and looks like I'll add one more subject to the endless list of "Things to learn." Thanks again.
