I scoff at macro!

Nice shots. The second one is my favourite. A very interesting and different approach to flower photographygreat idea shooting in the dark - I might have to try that myself - would you care to share your setup with us. Have you ever looked at any of Harold Davis' work? He has some very interesting approaches to flower photography, if you are ever looking for inspiration. This URL will get you to one of his galleries - Biologic - have a look at some of his others as well. My only suggestion is to not try and include too much in each image and watch the out of focus flowers in the background as they can tend to draw the viewer's eye away from the main subject. Another flower photographer that I like very much is Denise Ippolito - Composition Exercise | A CREATIVE ADVENTURE photography by denise ippolito . I can hardly wait to see your next ones.

No secrets really. I just had my SB-800 on the kitchen table and moved it around a vase of flowers my wife had. The room was dark except for some ambient glow for the TV in another room. I just adjust the aperture and shutter speed to my satisfactions and when from there. The on camera flash was in commander mode.
