Fog in the harbour - 3 versions

I like all of them, but the first two are my favorites, with #1 being the winner for me. I love the emotional feel it has to it. I look at it and I can almost feel the mist and hear a bell or two clanging and a fog horn sounding.

AS-SHOWN, I like #3 the most, and to me the dark water at the bottom is crucial, since it shows the fog increasing in the distance. Eliminating the dark water hurts the shot.

I agree; the dark water adds to the sense of depth and minimalist feel. Good work!

Alrighty. Following Derrel's suggestion, I have Foggy 1 revised to version 2, below.

Getting rid of the partial boat on the right helped, and so did reducing a bit of the sky. I also straightened the non-existent horizon as well (masts are now more or less straight up and down) and that too helped.

And Foggy 3 got update to version 3, below:

Now in this one, I am deliberately putting the horizon at center because I want to reinforce the sky-water symmetry, including all the reflections in the water. As Derrel already noted, without the dark water along the base, it looks more ordinary. With the dark water, there's an undercurrent of implied danger and mystery. I also really like seeing a lot of grey atmosphere with the human element occupying only a little portion along the center. Nature's big, we're small.

Thank you for all the comments - this little exercise helped me think through what I likes and didn't like about the images.

It would be hard to find a boat / harbour /fog photo that I didn't like but in order,I'd go with2,3,1.
