Hello this is a followup to a previous post I made yesterday. I made the mistake of purchasing a sigma lens without buying the right adapter. I have one already for my vintage lens but it does not work for the new lens. Here I have taken some photos of the lens would you please tell me if I should purchase this adapter or can you recommend one I prefer amazon so I could receive the adapter sooner but any website is fine. Thanks a bunch!

The best idea would be to sell this lens and get one in the correct mount for your Canon 5D.

The problem I see from the images in the previous thread is that the lens appears to have a mechanical aperture adjustment where Canon uses electric motors. It just seems that even if you find an adapter that may work you'll just be adding a lot more potential problems.

I agree with Derrel that for me I would sell that lens and wait until I could find one designed to work with a Canon body.

If your purchase was recent, return the lens for all your money back.

1. You should not purchase a new lens with the idea of using an adapter. Any lens you must pay full price for should have a native mount for your camera.

2. If you find some used cheapo lens that you want to try just for the heck of it, then an adapter will be a small expense for trying something that you ordinarily would not purchase.

3. If your budget dictates the purchase of a new Sigma because that's all you can afford, re-think your priorities and purchase a higher-quality used lens.

From everything I've found, it should NOT be mounted on a full frame camera. Even though that adapter should fit. You'll damage the mirror.

I'm thinking of just purchasing the 'Nifty-fifty" It should be good to start out with.

A 50mm on a 5D is okay...but I had a 5D for almost 10 years and I think the 24-105 f4-L Is USM is the best total value.the newer 50mm With the silent wave focusing, the STM MODEL, IS supposed to be better than the inexpensive 50 mm f / 1.8 nifty fifty, which has jarring bokeh and which flares badly when shot towards the Sun. I do not like the nickname nifty fifty, but instead use the nickname "iffy fifty"... it has super cheap Construction, can easily snap into two pieces if dropped to the floor, focuses loudly, and flares like a bastard. I owned one, and gave it to my wife's nephew when he entered Art School and I told him,"here you can have this lens, it's been a real piece of crap for me."

The Canon 50 mm f / 1.8 "nifty fifty" is actually a very poor performer in terms of flare resistance and is about 50 years behind the times in terms of what a good 50 should be it is easily worse than the 1964 Nikon 50mm F 1.4 that I had back in the early 1980s. The 50 mm EF f/1.4 is much better than the f/1.8 version...

Hi, again! Please take this suggestion as an honest, friendly, helpful suggestion.

First; tell us what camera body you have and what kind of photography you are interested in.

Next; tell us your budget.

You should soon start seeing some suggestions for a lens.

Hello! Should I post a new thread I probably will but I would greatly appreciate it if you would give me your suggestion. So I'll just answer your question here. I have a canon 5d mark 1 I want to do food photography budget-wise under 120? I'm not sure if that is too low I would love to find anything under a 100 but I understand you can't skimp when it comes to photography.

Hello! Hmm... Well, it seems I may have to reevaluate my thoughts on the 50mm lens. I posted a new thread where I have asked for some lens suggestions. Would you mind posting it there? I most likely won't be looking at this thread very much since I have resolved the issue.
