If you are seriously interested in food photography, get whatever the top food magazine is and study that for inspiration. A french one would probably be great since they are so anal about food here, lol.
I don't think much of your first shot but the second is far from the worst here.
#1 the food is a bit too monotone to make an interesting shot and the light is kind of weird.
#2 with the dark chocolate, the cherry and pistachio bits, there is more color interest and the lighting is better. The reflectivity of the background and the line along the left side are annoying though.
Practice makes perfect though so keep at it.
