After what seems weeks of grey cloud it was sunshine and some fast shutter speeds at yesterdays West Midlands league game between AFC Wulfrunians and Darlaston

Player behind looks sharper than the keeper, also the busy background takes away from this image.

I noticed you shot in TV, aperture priority is better if your not confident with manual, open you aperture up to blur the background, shutter prioriy is better for shooting motion

Strangely enough that was suggsted on another site and I have used Aperture Priority for the last 2 matches with results I have been well pleased with

Aperture priority will give the fastest possible shutter speed for your settings, if it is not fast enough up your iso

Learn how to use your camera, shooting sports manual, lock in the shutter speed and aperture and you won't have to be concerned with changing anything. If the light changes make the changes, try and work with a shutter speed at 500th or faster and keep the aperture around 5.6-6.3 at most. You end up with far better results.

Yes, Aperture Priority is definately better than Schutter priorit. You could've shot this at (at least) f5.6, which would've probably dona a better job blowing out the background.
