during my last 2 location sessions, i broke 2 vivitar 285HV, stands dropped on concrete becasue of wind blowing in a large door/windows (i know it was stupid not to secure stands with sandbags).

flash head was fine but the plastic foot (big vivitar mistake) broke.

i ordered the metal foot replacement on ebay and OMG, what an improvement from the original foot.

3 Vivitar 283 285 285HV Flash Metal Replacement Foot - eBay (item 160434521181 end time Sep-10-10 16:32:13 PDT)

the auto thyristor mode is still working, the new foot require some welding but nothing hard to do....
the new foot also have a test button and a PC port (got rid of the useless vivitar sync plug)
its so much an improvement that i removed the unbroken foot of my 3rd unit for a metal one.

i just wanted to share for the ones using the 285hvs

Thanks for the link!

By the way I now use ankle weights from Wal-Mart to help control light stands.
