For T3i: Canon 17-55 f2.8 or Tamron for $600 less

Hey,

I'm looking at purchasing my next lens and I know there's a lot of personal pros and cons to everyone's decision when it comes to lenses, but I can't help but look at the value preposition with this one.

I like video work quite a bit and therefore, despite being wide, image stabilization is something I want.

I can get the Tamron SP AF 17+50mm F2.8 XR DI VC LD for $600 less than the Canon 17-55 f2.8 IS USM.

I have read most of the reviews and I'm pretty much settled on the fact that I would be content, barring any severe discrepancies to what I've read, with what the Tamron provides, but would like to get your opinions on it.

Also, I will be using this lens mainly on my T3i, can someone confirm this lens will auto focus with this body?
