I bought a book called "Understanding Exposure Revised Edition" I think it has been very helpful as far as camre setting and such. The author is Bryan Peterson published by Amphoto Books. I think it is worth reading .

You also might want to look at his "Learning to See Creatively". It helped me out a lot when I was first starting.
