I was out at Stanley Park in Vancouver tonight and snapped this shot. Let me know what you think!

There is a large object in front of the camera. It might have been good to light it up with the flash instead of leaving it as a black void.

The city lights are lovely, but the little guy, with the pointy shoes, running in front of you is distracting. I think it would be better from an angle where he was excluded from the shot.

I actually like what you're trying to achieve with the guy (I assume a statue) in front. The problem is he doesn't stand out against the background - especially the sky, so the effect you're after is lost. I don't know that I'd use a direct flash to highlight him, though, although I do think this picture calls out for some lighting experimentation. Maybe I'd try a backlight at his 10 or 11 o'clock (maybe even a second one at his 7 o'clock) to give him some definition while retaining most of his darkness.
