My wife took this shot. Very foggy day. I don't think the day, or the shot, would have been as nice with blue sky and sun.

You're right. The entire atmosphere (literally and figuratively speaking) would have been all different in sunny weather!
The fog sure adds to it.
What is it you did in post processing?

Lafoto, I boosted the contrast and the saturation and then darkened the walkway and walls and lightened the gate sentry.
