An ex-pro photographer friend of a friend informed me that he has $1,100 of lighting that he wouldn't mind getting rid of for a fraction of the price. I was going to buy a garbage ebay set up. But if this is really good stuff i'll just go through him. I don't personally know him, all I really know is that he's got a lot of money lol. I don't know what kind of photography he was into, so I am coming to you guys for support and guidance.

My question is:

What should I be looking for in regards to companies/models
And what kind of questions should I ask regarding the life(?) of the equipment. In other words, does lighting have "mileage"?

I think a better approach would be to post a list of the gear he has, and some of the more experienced members on here can tell you if those items are worth buying. Obviously, you'll need to find out first.

That would require someone writing you a book.

What country are you in?

NY, US

I don't mean for someone to go into great detail, but there are reputable companies right?

I don't want to go to his house, look at his stuff and start writing down numbers lol.

I bought second had lights, I just make sure that they can be services close by, I got then 2 years a go and they work well

Do you mean doing your due diligence and heaven forbid, actual research?

If the guy is worth his salt, that might be the best compliment you can give him.

Why not let him write down the numbers? Give him your email and ask him to send you a list of the equipment he is wanting to sell. If he is planning to sell the stuff he's going to need to make a list anyway.

That's a good idea. Ask him to email you the list and price.

I was in a rush and asked for things to look for. I do my research.

The dude is in his 70s and I never met him. I never wound up going anyway. Maybe next weekend.
